Apprenticeship Readiness Program – Week Two Highlights

WEEK TWO, DONE! Our 13th MC3 Apprenticeship Readiness Program cohort spent all last week at the training hall of United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA) Local 572!

One of our favorite Week Two events is a panel and career fair featuring representatives from the building trades Unions in and around town. Students had a chance to ask questions about the specific trades and locals, as well as meet representatives for more in-depth conversations about their union apprenticeship processes. This time, we had reps from IUBAC Local 223, UA Local 572, IBEW Local 429, Boilermakers International, SMART Local 177, Teamsters Local 327, LiUNA Local 386, IUEC Local 93, and OPCMIA Local 148. Thanks to all the trades who joined us to share opportunities with our participants!

And of course, we had some hands-on training and education! Learning in the classroom is crucial, but there’s no substitute for handling materials and equipment to get a feel for whether a specific trade is right for you. We spend time later in the week with a PVC structure competition, and learning how to solder copper pipe.

As we get started on Week Three, be on the lookout for news and updates. More to come…
